Accessible BC Act: Advocacy Tool for Parents

The Accessible BC Act was passed in British Columbia in 2021. The act states that "an organization must develop a plan to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to individuals in or interacting with an organization." In addition, organizations must establish a process for receiving comments from the public on the organization’s accessibility plan, and barriers to individuals in or interacting with the organization.

If you are the parent of a child who is being denied access to effective reading remediation at school please give feedback to your school district through their Accessibility feedback form.  We need to give school districts data to support what we already know - that denying students their basic human right to read is a serious accessibility problem.  This is a moment where change is possible, but change will only happen if we all use our voices.
